Company Provides Initial Health Care Proposal

Negotiations

July 8th, 2020

Kroger Houston and UFCW Local 455 met again this week. During these meetings, the company shared a health care proposal with the union.

Prior to sharing our proposal, we explained that moving forward our health care benefit proposals will need to address the following four requirements:

  • Provide secure, stable, affordable health care benefits for associates for the life of the contract
  • Improve benefit options for our associates through modern plan designs, which lead to better health outcomes
  • Leverage the size and scale of the Kroger Family of Companies
  • Provide transparency and standardization in administration of benefits

Our proposal includes providing benefits through a company-administered plan rather than the South-Central Health and Welfare Fund. This update is the first in a series of communications on our health care proposal.

We will be providing you with facts throughout this process and are committed to being open and transparent with you.

Health care coverage and terminology can be complicated. Watch this video that explains some of the terms you will hear us talk about as we begin to explain our proposal.

Get informed! Review our proposal carefully and share with your family. Ask your store leader questions or you can also ask questions through askhouston@kroger.com.

Thank you for all that you are doing to take care of your customers and each other.
