Rumors of Another Strike Authorization Vote

June 11th, 2021

We have heard from a number of you that UFCW Local 455 has been in stores encouraging associates to attend a quarterly membership meeting to possibly vote once again on strike authorization. We don’t understand why the union is asking you to go down this road now. It doesn’t make sense.

Consider the following:

  • All associates have received pay increases in the last eight months, and many are due to receive additional pay increases later this summer.
  • More than 8,000 associates are now enrolled in and receive benefits from a company-administered plan. We have heard associates are happy with their benefits, which are secure, affordable and provide improved options for better health care outcomes.
  • The company has also made significant investments to better secure your pension benefits.
  • Why is the union asking you to potentially jeopardize your paycheck and benefits when they have not given you the opportunity to vote on our Last Best and Final offer?

Local 455 continues to focus on keeping your health care benefits in a Taft Hartley Fund rather than trying to reach an agreement. Something just isn’t adding up. You may ask yourself, Is the union looking out for your best interests or theirs?

You can influence the union’s request for strike authorization by voting at the union’s upcoming meetings.

We believe no one wins with a strike. Not the stores. Not our customers. And not you, our associates. The union may try to convince you otherwise.

The choice is yours.

Do what is right for you and your family.
