Negotiation Update on Your Houston Clerks and Meat Clerks Contracts

July 31st, 2021

Thank you for your continued commitment to our customers and your patience throughout the bargaining process.

Kroger Houston and UFCW Local 455 bargaining committees met on July 29 and 30 regarding the status of your Houston Retail Clerk and Meat Clerk contracts. We met at the union’s request, based on its claim that it had prepared movement and our understanding that it may have had proposals to break our bargaining impasse and move toward ratified contracts.

That did not occur. Unfortunately, following our meetings, we remain at an impasse over health care. While the union did offer several additional proposals to the company, the union did not present any proposals on our company-plan proposal—the critical issue which has been causing a logjam for almost a year now.

At this time, there are no future planned meeting dates to discuss your Houston Retail Clerk and Meat Clerk contracts.  In the meantime, as part of implementing our Last, Best, and Final Offer, department leaders, and top-rate associates will see their next pay increase effective for hours worked beginning Sunday, August 8.  These pay increases will be reflected in August 19 paychecks.
